An adventure in Wales
through the mountains to the beach
Surf'n'turf is a new event for 2022, with the aim of creating a fun, social, and fully inclusive ride. Taking place over the weekend of August 20th & 21st, it will be a journey from the town of Llandovery in the heart of Wales, through the spectacular heart of Wales to spend a night in a picture perfect location of Llanrhystyd, right next to the sea. Designed as a bikepacking event, with no set route, we will provide a range of options, all tried and tested to suit all abilities. It is open to all styles of bikes, with routes that will cover road riding, gravel, or more technical terrain that will suit more adventurous gravel bikes or mountain bikes.
For those intrigued by bikepacking, but perhaps don't have all the kit, there will be an optional luggage transfer option to get to the stop over, or perhaps to take that extra bit of kit to the beach to enjoy the sea.
Looking to make it a family occasion? There is also an extra family camping option for those wishing to join you, but not take the bike.
The camp location is a flat field, with direct access over a small pebble barrier to the sea. The beach is a mix of shingle and sand on the Ceredigion coast, with a huge array of wildlife to spot and enjoy. Dolphins and seals can be spotted if you are lucky, with a wide array of seabirds on the nearby rocky cliffs.

Example routes to suit all riders and all bikes

Road
From 60 kilometers to over 150 kilometers with every option being designed to be scenic, and use quieter roads. If you are looking for a challenge, the epic route through the Elan Valley will reward you with incredible views as you make your way through some of the most sparsely populated areas of Wales. Even the shorter routes will take in local beauty spots, with information on useful stopping points for things to see, or places to eat along the way.
Gravel
Mid Wales has some of the very best gravel riding in the whole of the UK, with a huge number of quiet forest tracks and byways to explore. Some are more challenging than others, but every one is designed to be true to what gravel is. Highlights include the Tywi forest, and for those who want a bigger adventure the Elan Valley and Teifi Pools is within reach.

Adventure
For mountain bikers, or perhaps more adventurous gravel riders there are routes available to suit. Don't expect too much technical riding, but there we do have more cross-country style options to enjoy. The trail centres of Brechfa forest and Cwm Rhaeadr are options to sample, or take a more natural route over some of the higher mountains and bridleways. All routes are designed and tested to suit the time of year, avoiding overgrown tracks.
NB. The map above is designed as an example, and not for use to follow while riding. A full list of routes will be given to all entered riders in the weeks before the event and the option to download preferred file formats. Not all routes are shown, and we will be expanding the options significantly as the event draws near.

Why Surf'n'Turf?
As bikepacking has become more popular, we have embraced the style of riding to explore the surroundings further.
Surf'n'Turf keeps the outdoor, self-sufficient style of bikepacking but takes away some of the unknown with a guaranteed campsite in a location that we know you will love. Basic facilities will be available, and we want the campsite to have a fun, social atmosphere. Grab your stove, sit on the beach and experience the joy of the outdoors.
After visiting many parts of the UK, we also know just how lucky we are to have such an incredible landscape on our doorstep, and we want to share this with others.
